Purpose-built to promote clinical excellence and ultimately improve patient safety, Floor eleven is one of Spaces at The Spine’s most unique and versatile spaces and home to our medical simulation centre. 

Two identical clinical assessment suites have been created to simulate a real-life medical environment, providing a state-of-the-art set-up to train and assess students and health professionals.

Key features

Housed within the the Royal College of Physicians' northern headquarters, The Spine, and with a panoramic view over the city, Floor eleven was specifically designed to be used for multi-professional skills training, education, meetings, and to host PACE, OSCE and MRCP (UK) exams.

Advanced integrated audio-visual technology in each suite allows examiners to replicate a variety of patient scenarios, and to watch, record and manage candidates, so simplifying the assessment process.

The clinical simulation centre also benefits from Spaces at The Spine’s in-house technical team, who are always on hand to help deliver the best possible outcomes, offering expert support for exams and assessment, as well as interviews and training sessions for education and corporate clients.

• A dedicated entry and exit to the building, and reception area to welcome candidates and examiners
• 14 assessment rooms with beds, tables and chairs in each clinical assessment suite, suitable for different clinical and consultation scenarios
• In keeping with the wellness principles of Spaces at The Spine, each room has full-height windows, creating a natural light-filled calm environment for candidates
• A purpose-built hospital ward which mirrors a realistic hospital setting
• Flexible CCTV capability to enable filming of practice scenarios and a built-in Tannoy system for announcements across the exam circuit
• Adjustable room spaces to accommodate different exams, allowing some to host two patients instead of one while maintaining confidentiality with screens
• An extensive range of on-site professional equipment is available, including ophthalmoscopes, otoscopes, breast, arm, catheter, rectal, eye, ear and CPR mannequins, blood pressure cuffs, pen torches, tuning forks, Snellen charts, stethoscopes
