At Spaces at The Spine, our commitment to health and wellbeing goes beyond the building and its architecture. One of the most meaningful ways we do this is through our food, whether it’s from new event catering menus that are designed to enhance wellbeing, or in our adjoining wellness café, The Base.
Guided by the International WELL Building Institute’s concept of nourishment, just one of ten key concepts we follow as a certified Platinum venue, we’ve created an environment where nutritious choices are not only available, but actively encouraged.
We believe fresh food should be accessible and inviting. That’s why every sandwich we serve at The Base comes with a free side salad, and our hot lunches are always paired with fresh vegetables or a salad. We also have a fresh fruit bowl placed at the till, making healthy snacking the easy choice for those last-minute lunch decisions.
Healthy food choices also underpin the catering offer for events hosted at Spaces at The Spine. Every menu, from breakfast upon arrival through to breaks, lunch and dinner, includes fresh fruit, salads and sides, as well as energising snacks such as homemade protein balls and yoghurt pots.
To help our customers and guests make more informed choices, we practice nutritional transparency. All café sandwiches, drinks and snacks are clearly labelled with calorie counts and full nutritional information, displayed through digital signage.
You won’t find sugary surprises either. Every snack in The Base contains less than 24g of sugar, while our drinks contain no added sugars, only naturally occurring fructose.
Food safety is top of our agenda, and we encourage all guests who walk through our doors to discuss any allergies with our friendly food service team. Visitors can relax in the knowledge that they're in safe hands, as our team undergoes annual allergy training to ensure everyone is well-informed and their knowledge is up-to-date.
While we do stock a few products with artificial ingredients, we ensure that they’re clearly labelled without being overly promoted, with the majority of our food avoiding unnecessary additives altogether.
We also prioritise whole grain options, including bread, rolls and popcorn, with these priced equal to, or less than, non-wholegrain foods.
We've taken our food philosophy a step further this summer with new catering menus, developed with our catering partner Company of Cooks, designed to support delegate wellbeing while promoting sustainability and inclusivity.
Created with nutritionists, the menus feature seasonal, low-GI (glycemic index) dishes for sustained energy, alongside options made with Future 50 Ingredients, which include nutrient-rich, plant-based foods identified for their health and environmental benefits. With 70% allergen-free options and sustainable vegan wines, it’s part of our mission to set a new benchmark for wellness in event dining.
Mindful eating is more than just the food being consumed; it’s also about the environment in which it’s served.
The Base provides ample seating both indoors and outdoors, encouraging guests to step away from their desks, helping to disconnect from the daily stresses of work and enjoy meals in a calm, comfortable setting with fresh air and natural light. On the Spaces at The Spine event floors, breakfast, refreshment breaks and lunch are all served in breathtaking spaces created with wellbeing in mind: with its indoors plant installations and double-height ceiling, The Atrium on Floor twelve offers a relaxing, bright environment; on the Top floor, The Axis boasts panoramic views over Liverpool, allowing guests to admire the landscape and enjoy the abundance of natural light.

We also celebrate dietary diversity. Whether you're vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, or have specific allergen concerns, you’ll always find a main dish that meets your needs, prepared with full transparency and care under Natasha’s Law, which ensures food items have clear and full ingredient labelling.
We’re constantly evolving and developing ways to enhance our food and drink offerings to meet the needs of our visitors. Our team is currently exploring new initiatives, with a focus on nutritional education.
Exciting ideas are in the pipeline, including portion size strategies and hands-on workshops, such as pasta-making and herb planting, as well as developing an indoor herb garden to provide fresh ingredients on site. These initiatives complement our existing program of providing used coffee for compost, as a way of giving back to the community.
Every meal we serve reflects our dedication to wellbeing, and every choice we offer is rooted in well-researched strategies to help you feel your best.
Try it for yourself and pop into The Base café every weekday from 7:30am to 4:30pm and on Thursdays from 7:30am to 7:30pm, or get in touch with the Spaces at The Spine team to discuss any event requirements.
The Spine is located in Paddington Village at the heart of the Knowledge Quarter in Liverpool’s City Centre.
