Accessibility by design: Events for every guest

At Spaces at The Spine, inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. From the design of our building and the technology we use to the training we provide our teams, every decision is made with accessibility in mind. This commitment has helped establish us as one of Liverpool’s leading accessible venues, creating events where every guest can participate and feel welcome.

Our building and event spaces were designed with accessibility as a priority, incorporating features that support people with a wide range of needs, including both visible and invisible disabilities. That includes neurodiversity. While neurodiverse needs may not always be immediately apparent, they are never overlooked. We are committed to creating environments that are comfortable, inclusive and accessible for everyone.

Here are just some of the ways Spaces at The Spine creates events that work for all:

Interior design

Our landmark building is visually striking, but it’s also designed to the International WELL Building Standard, which includes the purposeful use of natural materials throughout to support anyone with additional sensory needs.

Nature-inspired, neutral colour palettes and textures, as well as an abundance of plants, help to create a calming and relaxed atmosphere from the moment guests arrive in our atrium.

Quiet rooms

Spaces at The Spine was designed with flexibility in mind, allowing us to adapt our venue to meet a wide range of needs. This includes creating quiet rooms for delegates who may benefit from a calmer environment during an event.

Thanks to our networked technology, our AV team can seamlessly stream conferences and meetings into these spaces, enabling guests to participate fully from an alternative room. Whether avoiding full-volume audio or applause, delegates can remain engaged and involved without missing any part of the experience.

Assistive listening options

All of our event spaces are equipped with hearing loop technology, giving guests greater control over how they experience audio during an event. Rather than relying solely on the venue’s speaker system, delegates can access live audio directly through their own device and headphones. By scanning a QR code on their iOS or Android phone, guests can connect to the event audio via an app and adjust the volume to a level that suits their individual preferences, creating a more comfortable and personalised experience.

A team with neurodiversity awareness

As an award-winning event venue in Liverpool, our success is built on more than just exceptional facilities and functionality. It is equally shaped by the knowledgeable, friendly service delivered by our team.

Our client-facing staff, including event planners, AV technicians and catering teams, have all completed neurodiversity training, helping them to better understand and support both clients and colleagues. This ensures a greater awareness of individual needs and enables us to respond thoughtfully and appropriately where required. Whether it's guiding guests through fire safety procedures or providing guidance on important protocols, our staff are on hand to support with clarity and empathy.

Forward planning so everyone feels safe

It’s essential to us that everyone attending an event at Spaces at The Spine feels safe and welcome. GEEP (general emergency evacuation plan) forms, which encompass visible and hidden disabilities, are sent to organisers in advance, so if someone requires extra assistance, they can inform us, and we can put the right procedures in place. When they arrive, they are met by a fully-trained staff member who can ensure they get the most out of their experience.

If you’re interested in hosting a neurodivergent-friendly event at Spaces at The Spine, please get in touch by calling 0151 318 2200 or filling out our enquiry form below.
